How a claim degrades between the bench and the listing
Lot-level verification with a public report is a real and achievable thing. It exists in this market, on a minority of listings.

Medutest has published a purity determination of 95.6% on a 10 mg vial of semaglutide supplied by KP, against a figure of 94.1% on the certificate that accompanied the vial. The sample was submitted by the Journal in October 2025 as part of a continuing programme of arm’s-length purchasing, and the vendor was told before the order was placed that any result would be published.
The Journal purchased 15 vials from the same lot at retail and had four of them analysed separately, in order to distinguish vial-to-vial variation from method variation. Vial-to-vial agreement was within 0.4 percentage points. Method-to-method disagreement was an order of magnitude larger.
Reported figures across the set were: highest 95.6%, lowest 94.1%, median close to the midpoint of the two. Every report in the set stated a detection wavelength, and 17 of them stated an integration threshold. The Journal has asked the laboratory to publish thresholds on all reports as a matter of routine.
Discrepancies of one to two percentage points between a supplier’s figure and an independent determination are common and usually explicable: a faster gradient resolves fewer impurities, a higher integration threshold discards more small peaks, and a wider solvent-front exclusion window removes early-eluting fragments from the calculation altogether. None of that is misconduct. All of it is invisible unless the method is disclosed.
Dr Wenjun Xie, process chemist and peptide manufacturing consultant, said the gap was predictable from the methods alone. "You can reconstruct almost the whole difference from the integration threshold. What you cannot reconstruct is why anyone thinks a number without a threshold is comparable to a number with one."
KP’s dossier has been updated with this determination and with the company’s response to it. The dossier’s ordering box records the lead times, the minimum quantities and what a buyer should ask for at the point of order.

The result is unremarkable. What the report states alongside it is not.
A result on one vial generalises to a batch only if the vial was drawn in a way that makes it representative — and nobody records how it was drawn.
